Gul Khan Art: Pakistan's Roads, Brought Into Your Home

Drive through any city in Pakistan, and you'll see trucks that are so ornately adorned that they resemble moving murals rather than actual cars. Vibrant hues, complex geometric designs, floral themes, mirrored surfaces, and words that provoke thought or a smile. The majority of individuals outside of Pakistan have never had a close-up experience with one of the most well-known and pleasant forms of art in the world.

Gul Khan Art, a Pakistani brand founded in 2015 by Ms. Samia Ali, is on a mission to change that. Born from a genuine love for her country's culture and a frustration that such a rich art tradition was barely known beyond Pakistan's borders, Samia built Gul Khan from the ground up, turning Pakistani truck art into objects you can actually live with, gift, and treasure.

String & Thread carries the Gul Khan Art collection in the USA, shipped domestically, so you can experience this craft without the wait.

What Handmade Gul Khan Products Look Like

The Gul Khan art collection spans over 93 categories and 2,500+ designs, which tells you something important about the brand's ambition. This isn't a curated handful of novelty items. It's a serious, broad range of thoughtfully designed products that bring truck art into everyday spaces:

• Home décor: chamakpatti wall plates, trays, and decorative pieces inspired by the patterns and mirrored surfaces of traditional truck ornamentation
• Kitchenware and drinkware: mugs, coasters, and bottle openers with hand-painted or hand-applied truck art motifs
• Bags and accessories: trolley bags, tote bags, and mobile covers that turn a functional item into a conversation starter. One customer's trolley bag literally stopped people at the airport.
• Gift items: culturally significant, uniquely designed pieces that work beautifully as gifts for anyone interested in Pakistani artistry or traditional design
• Customized products: the brand accepts custom orders, so you can have specific designs, colors, or text applied to select pieces

Every single item is handcrafted embroidery and hand-finished by skilled artisans — meaning no two pieces are completely identical. Variations in color, texture, and shading aren't imperfections. They're proof that a human made it.

The Story Behind the Art

Pakistani truck art isn't decoration for decoration's sake. It's an expression of emotions, love, pride, humor, and regional identity. The captions painted on trucks ("dekh magar pyaar se," "baray hokar corolla banungi") are part of the culture, carrying the personality of the driver and the artist who painted it.

Gul Khan translates all of that: the energy, the color, the warmth, into objects that carry the same spirit in a format that fits your home, your bag, or your gift list. Every product has a story. You can feel it in the design.
